Delhi University’s first undergraduate (UG) cut-off list for 2025 has been released, revealing a record-breaking surge in score requirements across top colleges.

Hindu College leads this year with the highest cut-off — an extraordinary 950 out of 1,000 for BA (Hons.) Political Science. This marks one of the steepest entry benchmarks ever set in DU’s history.

Top College Cut-Off Highlights

Several other prestigious colleges have also set their cut-offs well above the 90% mark.

Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) has demanded 926 for BA (Hons.) Psychology, while St. Stephen’s College set the same figure for BA (Hons.) English.

Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), known for its elite commerce programs, has pegged BCom (Hons.) at 917.

Miranda House, another top-ranking college, requires 925 for BA (Hons.) Political Science.

Even mid-tier institutions are not far behind, with most cut-offs comfortably sitting in the 90th percentile range.

What’s Driving the Soaring Cut-Offs?

Several factors are contributing to this upward trend:

  • Massive Course Preferences: DU received overwhelming interest in a few key programs. BCom (Hons.) alone saw nearly 20 lakh total programme-college choices, while BA (Hons.) English logged over 12 lakh preferences.
  • First Choice Pressure: Colleges like SRCC, Hindu College, and Hansraj College recorded extremely high first-preference entries. SRCC received 38,795 first-preference entries, followed by Hindu College with 31,901, and Hansraj with 15,902.
  • Stream-Wise Preference: Humanities dominated the stream choices this year, accounting for 58.9% of total selections. Commerce followed with 20.9%, while science drew 20.2%.
  • CUET Score Normalisation: The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores are normalized across different subjects and exam shifts. This normalisation process often increases the effective score, pushing cut-offs higher across the board.

What’s Next for Applicants?

The second cut-off list is expected to be released on July 28, and may bring some marginal relief for applicants who missed out in the first round.

However, the competition remains fierce, with over 71,000 applicants competing for just 1,528 course-college combinations.

Students must accept their allotted seats via the DU CSAS portal by July 21, or they risk losing their spot in this highly competitive process.

The 2025 admissions cycle at Delhi University reiterates one clear reality: students aspiring to enter DU’s top colleges must secure near-perfect CUET scores. The soaring cut-offs underscore the importance of not just academic excellence, but also smart planning and viable backup options in today’s hyper-competitive education landscape.
