Doppl by Google: See Yourself in Any Outfit – Virtually!
Google is taking virtual fashion to the next level with its latest experimental app, Doppl. Google has introduced the app in the United States. Developed under Google Labs Doppl is a new experimental app that lets users virtually try on clothes using AI. Doppl allows users to virtually try on outfits and view an animated version of themselves wearing different styles.
Designed to let users try on clothes without ever stepping into a dressing room, Doppl uses advanced AI to create animated versions of you wearing outfits of your choice.
The app is available for download on both iOS and Android platforms.
How to use the app?
To begin using Doppl, users must download Doppl from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and sign in with a Google account and upload a full-body photo. The app includes a ‘Tips for great results’ section to help users choose the best image.
After that, users can upload a photo or screenshot of an outfit they want to try – whether it’s from social media, a blog, or a friend’s wardrobe.
Once uploaded, tapping the “Animate” button generates a short AI-powered video showing the user wearing the outfit.
What You Can Try On?
Currently, Doppl supports virtual try-ons for tops, bottoms, and dresses. However, items like shoes, lingerie, bathing suits, accessories, costumes, and many traditional or cultural outfits are not supported yet, as the app is still in its experimental stage.
Additional Features
If an outfit isn’t fully supported, Doppl can generate “imagined items” to help complete the look. Such as it can add missing elements other than tops and dresses. There is also a ‘default outfit’ option for when the uploaded clothing can’t be used. While the app provides a visual representation of how clothes might look, Google clarifies that Doppl does not offer sizing recommendations, fit accuracy, or availability details.
Since Doppl is still experimental, it may not always get the fit or clothing details exactly right.
Doppl is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to improve virtual try-on technology, following the virtual try-on features in Google Shopping. However, unlike Shopping’s more direct use, Doppl is a standalone app and restricted to users 18 years and older.
